HILS Celebrates Carers Week UK 2025: Recognising the Unsung Heroes Among Us

This week, HILS proudly joined organisations across the UK to mark Carers Week 2025 – a national awareness campaign that shines a spotlight on the vital role of carers. Whether they’re unpaid carers supporting family and friends, or professional care workers delivering life-changing support every day, carers are the heartbeat of our communities.

At HILS, we believe every carer deserves recognition, appreciation, and real, practical support. Many carers go unnoticed, quietly helping loved ones while juggling work, children, or their own health. Carers Week UK is a powerful reminder to pause, say thank you, and explore how we can all do more to support carers.

Celebrating Carers Week in Hertfordshire, Hampshire, and West Sussex

Across Hertfordshire, Hampshire, and West Sussex, our teams have been out and about, meeting carers and highlighting the support HILS can offer – especially through our Support at Home and Community Activities services.

Tuesday: Hatfield Carers Event with Carers in Herts

On Tuesday, Rhianna from our Hertfordshire communications team, and Yvonne our Active Ageing Team Leader attended a brilliant Carers Week event in Hatfield, organised by Carers in Herts. Dozens of local organisations gathered to share advice, resources, and services to support unpaid carers. It was a fantastic chance to talk to carers face-to-face, hear their stories, and let them know how HILS can help lighten the load.

Thursday: Supporting Working Carers at Hertfordshire County Council

On Thursday, Rhianna joined Hertfordshire County Council’s Carers Week celebration, aimed at council staff who are also carers. It’s a powerful reminder that many people are balancing their jobs with caring responsibilities – often in silence. Events like these help raise awareness and connect carers with the right support.

West Sussex: Shoreham Health Centre Carers Coffee Morning

Meanwhile, Rachel from our West Sussex team attended a Carers Coffee Morning at Shoreham Health Centre. Organised in line with Carers Week, the event invited patients to learn more about local support for carers.

Rachel spoke to all the carers who attended, and a recurring theme was clear – carers are in urgent need of a break, even just a short window to do something for themselves. That’s where HILS’ hot meals service comes in. We explained how we can pop in to deliver a nutritious hot meal, check in on their loved ones, and give carers a much-needed breather. We also offer flexible support – if a carer wakes up feeling overwhelmed or unwell, they can call us by 9:30am to arrange a same-day meal for themselves and the person they care for. It’s about supporting carers, not just those they care for.

Hampshire: NHS Webinar and Eastleigh Community Showcase

In Hampshire, we’re finishing the week strong! Today (Friday), we’re joining an NHS-led Carers Week webinar, focused on carer support in Hampshire. We’re thrilled to have a slot at 2pm to speak about our Meals on Wheels in Hampshire – a lifeline service for many carers and families.

And this Sunday, we’ll be at the Eastleigh Community Showcase, hosted by Community First, in the Carers and Community Support area. It’s a fantastic community event where we’ll be connecting with carers, local residents, and other support services.

Why Meals on Wheels Matters for Carers

Our Meals on Wheels service isn’t just about food – it’s about caring for carers too. A freshly prepared hot meal delivered to the door can offer reassurance, dignity, and a moment of rest. Whether a carer is heading out for a quick errand or just needs a break, we’re here to help. Visit our new carers section to see how HILS can support you.

Carers Week UK 2025 has been a powerful reminder that carers need our support more than ever. At HILS, we’re committed to being there for them – in Hertfordshire, Hampshire, West Sussex, and beyond.

Thank You to Carers Everywhere

To every carer – paid or unpaid, full-time or occasional – thank you. You are making an incredible difference, even when it doesn’t feel like it. HILS sees you, and we’re here to support you.
