Ladies enjoying their time at the lunch

Hove (AUKWSBH) joined forces to host a FREE community lunch event at The Grange in Midhurst on Friday, 7th November, as part of the National Association of Care Catering’s Meals on Wheels Week – Friday Friends campaign.

We welcomed 18 people through the doors, and it was lovely to see people meeting new friends as    well as re-connecting with others. It was also great to see the ladies from Bluebird Care Chichester come along with some of their lovely clients who don’t often get the chance to go out.

The event was all about community, companionship, and good food. Guests enjoyed a free two-course meal, provided by HILS, alongside fun games and quizzes.

Rachel Pawley, Deputy Communications & Engagement Manager at HILS commented:

“We wanted to create a space where the local community could come together over food and enjoy an afternoon out. Many people are socially isolated or find it difficult to get out and about, so by partnering with local services, we were able to bring people together and make a real difference.”

This event highlighted the power of social connection in reducing loneliness and creating welcoming spaces for everyone. The positive feedback from attendees shows just how vital these gatherings are in supporting individuals and strengthening community ties.

Shannon from Bluebird care said: “It was nice to bring the community together for a meal and some entertainment, we enjoyed winning the quiz too!”

Others commented “It was very really nice and a worthwhile day out”, “Nice company and good tasting food”, and “Lovely meals and a lovely experience.”

Local services such as Caroline from Rother Valley Together and Regi from the Arun & Chichester Food Partnership popped along to provide useful local information.

We are hoping to launch another community event in the new year…watch this space!
