Health & Independent Living Support Celebrated with National Awards for Innovation and Community Support

We’re proud to share that HILS has been recognised with a number of major national awards in 2025 so far, celebrating our commitment to delivering innovative community support services and high-quality meals on wheels across Hertfordshire, West Sussex, and Hampshire.

Team of the Year – Public Sector Catering Awards 2025

Back in April, our entire HILS team was honoured with the Team of the Year award at the Public Sector Catering Awards – a national celebration of outstanding contributions across school meals, hospitals, care settings, and community services.

This award recognises the collective effort of everyone at HILS, from the drivers delivering meals on wheels in all weathers, to the kitchen teams preparing thousands of nutritious meals a week, to the outreach staff supporting people post-discharge and beyond. It’s a reflection of the heart and hard work that go into every service we offer.

Sarah Wren Wins at the Catey Awards 2025 – Public Sector Caterer of the Year

We’re also delighted to share that our CEO, Sarah Wren MBE, was named Public Sector Caterer of the Year at this year’s Catey Awards – one of the UK hospitality industry’s most prestigious honours. The Cateys celebrate exceptional individuals and organisations across the sector, and Sarah’s win is a testament to her visionary leadership, dedication, and long-standing commitment to social impact.

Under Sarah’s leadership, HILS has grown into the UK’s largest charitable meals on wheels provider, pioneering integrated community support that goes far beyond nutrition, including hospital discharge services, wellbeing checks, malnutrition prevention, and vital social contact to thousands of older and vulnerable people living independently.

At HILS, our meals on wheels service is much more than a meal, it’s a lifeline that supports health, safety, and independence at home.

Recognised as One of the UK’s Top Social Pioneers

We are also proud to have been recognised as one of the UK’s top social pioneers – organisations delivering innovative, people-focused services that tackle pressing social challenges with compassion and creativity.

Through services that support hospital discharge, prevent malnutrition, reduce isolation, and promote independent living such as our amazing Active Ageing service, and our wonderful Community Hubs, HILS is helping people across our regions stay healthier and happier at home for longer.

This recognition reinforces the value of our unique approach to community-based care, combining practical support with a deep understanding of individual needs.

Thank you to our amazing team

These achievements are only possible thanks to the passion and commitment of our staff, volunteers, and partners. Every meal delivered, every caring intervention, every friendly conversation, and every act of kindness helps us to make a lasting impact on people’s lives.

We’re incredibly proud to see our work recognised on a national stage, and even more determined to continue evolving to meet the growing needs of our communities.
