HILS Reaches 500,000 Meal Milestone in Hampshire
HILS is proud to announce that our Meals on Wheels Hampshire service has delivered over half a million meals in less than three years. Since launching the service in October 2023, our Hampshire team has been working tirelessly to ensure older and vulnerable residents receive nutritious daily meals, friendly check‑ins, and vital wellbeing support.
To mark the occasion, we were joined by Cllr Zoë Huggins, Executive Lead Member for Adult Social Care at Hampshire County Council, who visited our kitchen and delivery teams to see the service in action. Cllr Huggins congratulated staff for their dedication and emphasised how vital the service is in helping people remain independent at home.
Speaking with the team Cllr Huggins said;
“The staff here really get to know every individual so know when to report any concerns this would really give me peace of mind as a next of kin. The community team members are making a huge difference in keeping individuals healthy and independent at home, this is a vital service in the county”
Supporting Independence Across Hampshire
Every meal delivered by HILS represents far more than food. Our team provides:
- A hot, nutritious meal tailored to individual dietary needs
- A friendly visit and conversation
- A daily check‑in for safety and wellbeing
- Peace of mind for families and carers
As demand for community support continues to rise, HILS remains committed to providing reliable, person‑centred services across the county.
A Team Effort Worth Celebrating
Reaching 500,000 meals is a testament to the hard work of kitchen staff, Community Team Members, volunteers, and the wider HILS team. Many staff members have built strong relationships with customers, offering a familiar face and small moments of connection that make a big difference.
The Community team members were treated to some cake, snacks and non-alcoholic fizz to celebrate this huge milestone in Hampshire.
Looking Ahead
HILS plans to continue expanding and strengthening our Meals on Wheels Hampshire service to reach even more residents who may benefit from daily support, particularly those living alone or recovering from illness. We will keep working alongside Hampshire County Council and community partners to ensure no one goes without good nutrition or human contact.
