On Friday 9th May, local Crawley Labour MP Peter Lamb, joined Emma, one of our friendly meals on wheels Community Team Members on her round across Crawley. Peter was invited to see first-hand the vital work HIL’s are doing to support some of the community’s most vulnerable residents to help them remain happy, healthy, and independent in their own homes.
Throughout the visit, Peter accompanied Emma as she delivered hot, nutritious meals to a diverse range of clients across Crawley who rely on our hot meals service. The visit offered valuable insight into both the daily challenges faced by clients and the critical role meals on wheels plays in improving their quality of life.
On return from his visit Peter commented that he had found the experience very humbling and was impressed with the work Emma was doing and how well she knew her clients and her interaction with them.
The visit reinforced the impact that regular meal deliveries and the friendly faces behind them have in helping to combat loneliness and supporting independent living
Emma enjoyed spending time with Peter and we would like to thank him for his time and interest in wanting to learn more about our work and the role we play in keeping people safe and well in their own homes, where they want to be.
Meals are delivered hot to clients’ homes between 11am and 2pm, 365 days a year. Alongside each delivery, HILS Community Team Members conduct a wellbeing and safety check, offering peace of mind to families and helping clients remain safe and supported in their own homes.
HILS operates the meals on wheels service for West Sussex County Council. Residents across West Sussex can access this vital support service on a flexible basis.
