HILS demonstrates the impact of meals on wheels to Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller

September 1, 2025

On Friday 15th August, Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller joined HILS Community Team Member Collette on her meals on wheels route to see firsthand the difference the service makes to local residents.

The visit offered Jess, Liberal Democrat MP for Chichester, an opportunity to learn how the service operates day to day and to meet clients who benefit from hot meals, tea packs, and regular wellbeing checks.

Jess said:

“It was a real pleasure to join the Health and Independent Living Support team on their Meals on Wheels round in Chichester earlier this month.

From hot meals and tea packs to daily wellbeing checks, the team provides vital support to people recovering from illness, returning home from hospital, or simply needing a helping hand.

I’d encourage anyone who could benefit to reach out to their team to find out more and make use of this invaluable service.”

Throughout the day, Jess saw the crucial role our Community Team Members play, not just in delivering meals, but in maintaining vital social connections. She was struck by Collette’s knowledge of each client’s individual needs and the care she shows to everyone she visits.

On her return, Jess also took time to talk with our Deputy Chief Executive, Tom Cottam about the meals on wheels service as a whole and the important health benefits the service has on those receiving hot meals.

Collette enjoyed sharing her work with Jess, and we would like to thank her for taking the time to experience our service and for recognising the impact we have in helping people remain safe, supported, and independent at home.

HILS operates the meals on wheels service for West Sussex County Council. Residents across West Sussex can access this vital support service on a flexible basis.
