HILS provides nutrition support and tailored physical activity programmes to older adults living in the community. Our Health & Wellbeing Client of the Season Award is an opportunity for us to celebrate our clients’ achievements and determination, and to inspire more people to seek help if they need it.
Staying Healthy
This season we are celebrating 92-year-old Eileen, a determined Nutrition & Wellbeing client who has worked hard to improve her eating habits to reach a stable weight.
Eileen was referred to HILS’ Nutrition & Wellbeing Team when she started the meals on wheels service due to concerns with poor appetite and weight loss. Unintentional weight loss can make you at higher risk of being malnourished, which can reduce your body’s ability to fight off illnesses, recover from poor health or injuries, and increase your risk of falls.
Our Senior Nutrition & Wellbeing Visitor, Kolsum, visited Eileen regularly over several months and monitored her weight. Alongside tailored nutrition advice, the Nutrition & Wellbeing Team were able to offer free Nutrition Boost snack packs to add extra calories into Eileen’s diet and support her with steady weight gain.
By regularly fortifying (adding nutrients and energy-dense foods) her meals using the team’s advice, Eileen has achieved her personal goal of stabilising her weight, leaving her feeling happier and more confident.
“Eileen was very keen to make small changes to achieve her goal and has made considerable improvements to her health and wellbeing.” – Kolsum, Senior Nutrition & Wellbeing Visitor
Congratulations to Eileen for her commitment to becoming Health & Wellbeing Client of the Season. Her results are testament to the improvements that can be made to your health in later life.
