2024 has been an exciting year for Hampshire, marking its first full year as part of the HILS family. Join us as we reflect on some of the wonderful moments and milestones we’ve celebrated!
In October 2023, Hampshire officially became part of HILS, making us the largest not-for-profit meals on wheels service in the UK.
Collaboration and treats
Over the past year, our Hampshire clients have enjoyed a variety of special treats, including a delicious cream tea provided by BidFood and Summer Activities booklets generously donated by Home Instead Southampton. We’re excited to collaborate with more organisations in the future to continue bringing joy to our clients’ lives.
Our amazing Marketing & Communications Outreach Officer, Fiona, has been busy attending events across Hampshire this year. You may have seen her at events organised by Community First, The Princess Trust, and Hampshire County Council. Fiona’s efforts to spread awareness have made a significant impact, and she’ll continue her outreach in 2025—so be sure to look out for her at community events!
Collaboration has been at the heart of our work this year. Recently, HILS partnered with other care agencies to establish the New Forest Forum, an initiative aimed at bringing together social and healthcare providers. Meeting bi-monthly, this forum has already strengthened support for individuals in the New Forest area.
VIP visits
During Meals on Wheels Week, we welcomed several VIPs to help us raise awareness. Among them was Cllr Oppenheimer, Petersfield Hangers Executive Member for Health & Wellbeing, who joined our Community Team Member, Steve, on a delivery round. Reflecting on his experience, Cllr Oppenheimer shared:
“It’s been great to see them enjoying a hot, nutritious meal. It’s also been really interesting to see how Steve comes in, has a chat, and checks up on them. We want to encourage people to eat healthily as they get older. Meals on wheels can be a really important part of helping people to live at home and live independently for longer.”

Another highlight of the week was a visit from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s home fire safety team. Their interest in our work was instrumental in raising awareness about meals on wheels across the county.
As a charity, fundraising plays a vital role in our mission. At the Eastleigh Annual Christmas Lights switch-on, Fiona and her volunteers raised an incredible £147 while spreading awareness about HILS in the local community.
Spreading the word
Through various collaborations, events, talks, and taster sessions with community groups, sheltered housing, and healthcare professionals, Fiona connected with over 1,655 people this year—a fantastic achievement!
Establishing the HILS name in Hampshire has been a significant effort, and we’re excited to start 2025 with a packed calendar of activities, including more talks and taster sessions. The coming year promises even more developments aimed at enhancing our services across Hampshire County. We can’t wait to share what’s in store with you in the New Year.
