Role Summary:

Project management:

HILS is a complex and evolving organisation that is doing a lot. Doing everything well means
working across different teams, bringing people together, and keeping everyone on the right
track. In other words, we need projects to be well-managed, so that they succeed.

You will need to:

  • Be able to examine the situation and define the problem or scope the project.
  • Research the topic, do some fact-finding, and rapidly get up to speed.
  • Get the right people in the room, get them on board, and make sure everyone knows
    what their responsibilities are.
  • Communicate with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Make a plan, monitor progress, keep the project on time and on budget, and produce
    successful outcomes.

Business development & transformation:

HILS aims to improve existing services and the wider business, whilst developing new ways
to serve customers, and keep up to date with changes in the law and in the sector. You’ll
work on a variety of projects with our Development & Transformation Team and wider
Leadership Team.

You will need to:

  • Work with managers to develop brand new services.
  • Work with managers to mobilise new contract opportunities.
  • Help make sure that the business is compliant with important legislation.
  • Help make sure that our policies, procedures, and compliance framework are fit for
    purpose, and support the business to thrive.
  • Contribute to business planning, shaping the direction of the organisation.
  • Help to eradicate pain points in our infrastructure and processes, to help the
    operations of the business run smoothly.

Operational service management:

HILS is a service business. This means that every day we run services to support residents
to live independently. You will get the opportunity to work directly in a service, experiencing the quick pace of an operational environment and how to work effectively to ensure reliability and quality is maintained.

You will need to:

  • Work with managers to ensure that HILS services run effectively.
  • Work with managers to deal with operational situations as they emerge.
  • Help to improve service processes from within the service area.
  • Support managers with their finance (budgets) and HR (management of staff)
    responsibilities.

Qualifications & Job Requirements:
Essential:

  • Satisfactory DBS check (because all HILS staff work with vulnerable adults)
  • The right to work in the UK
  • A 2:1 undergraduate degree in any subject or equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English
  • Be available to work a full year from November 2025
  • Ability to travel to all HILS’ sites and external partner sites as required

The Projects and Change Officer will play a vital role in planning, delivering, and evaluating
key organisational projects, including service development, improvement initiatives, and
change management processes. This role requires strong project management skills, a
proactive mindset, and the ability to work across teams to help implement sustainable
change that enhances outcomes for clients and staff. The post-holder will be creative and
flexible, not only supporting with project management, but helping to set the direction for
future change at HILS.

Hours:  30 hours per week, to be worked within the hours of 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. Specific hours to be agreed with the successful candidate and flexible working applications can be considered alongside the needs of the clients and the service requirements. Evening and weekend work may be required on rare occasions.

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Location:

This role will be primarily based in the South West Region of Hertfordshire (exact coverage will be dependent on successful candidate’s location), with exercise sessions being delivered to clients in their own homes and occasionally within community group settings. The normal place of work for this role will otherwise be the Instructor’s home address.

The successful candidate may be required on occasion to travel to all HILS sites where HILS’ Health & Wellbeing services are operating (St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, Cuffley, and Letchworth). The post holder’s caseload may cover HILS’ clients across all of Hertfordshire

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a unique exercise programme that helps frail, elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people improve their strength, confidence, and overall wellbeing. As an Active Ageing Exercise Instructor, you’ll play a key role in supporting people to stay active, reduce their risk of falls, and maintain their independence. Through tailored exercises and encouragement, you will help individuals build confidence in their movement and enjoy a better quality of life.

Your Role:

As an Active Ageing Exercise Instructor, you will:

  • Assess clients’ physical health and fitness at the start and end of the programme to track progress.
  • Discuss clients’ goals and aspirations to tailor the programme to their needs
  • Deliver weekly chair-based or strength and balance exercises in clients’ homes.
  • Lead group exercise sessions in the community as needed.
  • Encourage and motivate clients to stay active while ensuring their safety at all times.

Location: Community Hubs based at Jubilee Centre, St Albans and Friendship House, Hatfield.

Description:

Role Summary:

This role will be primarily based at the Jubilee Centre, a wonderful Victorian building in the centre of St Albans. The centre is primarily used as a base for the provision of meals on wheels and other services to older, disabled, and otherwise vulnerable adults. Alongside these services, the centre caters to a range of community groups, such as yoga classes, puppy training, and birthday parties. There will also be opportunities to care take at Friendship House, Hatfield – a welcoming and inclusive community centre which is also available for community groups to hire.
This is an important role, in which you will be helping to ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of the building during hiring periods. You will also be responsible for handling any queries from hirers, taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency, and opening and closing the centre as required.

Qualifications & Job Requirements:

Location: Primary location: this role will be primarily split between HILS’ Letchworth site (SG6 1HB), and at various locations across Hertfordshire when delivering community outreach activity.
You will also be required to visit other HILS sites across Hertfordshire. This includes Cuffley (EN6 4HY), Hatfield (AL10 0BU), Hemel Hempstead (HP2 4EU), Hertford (SG13 7BH), and St Albans (AL3 5BU). On occasion, you may also be required to travel to our sites in Hampshire and West Sussex, as well as incidental UK travel.

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with all areas of Communications &
Marketing in an innovative and ambitious not-for-profit organisation. Health & Independent
Living Support (HILS) is the largest meals on wheels provider in the UK, providing over
850,000 meals per year across Hampshire, Hertfordshire, and West Sussex. HILS also
provides a suite of services (primarily in Hertfordshire at present) that aim to support
independence, health, and happiness amongst older, disabled, or otherwise vulnerable
adults. This includes Nutrition & Wellbeing advice services, exercise sessions delivered at
home, and community activities.
As a small Communications & Marketing team, everyone has the chance to support and/ or
lead on a wide-range of activities, from in-person outreach to digital content creation. We
are looking for a creative and confident people-person with demonstrable experience in
digital communications, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a vital
role in a busy Communications and Marketing team, helping to raise awareness of HILS
services, promote our services, and build meaningful relationships with partners and the
public. The role is designed to ensure maximum in-person contact with all stakeholders, so
is site and community-based.

Current vacancies – Hampshire
